My name is Niya John

Niya John is a lighting designer and programmer from P.G. County, Maryland.  She holds a B.A in Theatre with a concentration in Production and Design and a minor in Africana Studies from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.  Her passion for theatre is rivaled only by her passion for history. Black history is deeply ingrained in her being as a person and artist. Whenever she reads a new play, she cannot help but consider the historical context of when it was written and produced. Art is not created in a vacuum and theatre is no different.  As a lighting designer, Niya relishes in the opportunity to create emotional, contrasting looks while uplifting the work of her fellow designers and artists. If she's not in a theatre or tech booth, you can find Niya reading or doing research on owning a pig.

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our light, not our darkness
That most frightens us.
